In the infants, also referred to as Key Stage 1, we believe in learning through play and exploration giving the children the opportunity to build social, developmental and academic skills throughout their three years in the Infant Department.
Years 1 and 2
Throughout the Infants we continue to build on the foundations of reading, writing and numeracy whilst a themed based topic approach adds flavour and interest to other curriculum areas such as Science, History and Geography. We continue to focus on their phonic awareness, reading skills and numeracy blocks that have been introduced in the Reception Class and build on the abilities of each individual child. Our children are encouraged to become confident and independent young learners whilst feeling secure in their comfortable environment.
Greek language is now separated into two groups and provides native-speaking Greek lessons as well as Greek as a Further Language lessons. Furthermore the children now start to visit one of the three ICT suites for structured technology lessons as well as having access to these suites for cross-curricular work. Music and PE continue to be delivered by subject specialists and the children in Year 2 make the transition to the larger playground ensuring a smooth social transition to the Juniors.
The transition to the Juniors is an exciting time for our pupils. Throughout their time in the Infants the children are in regular contact with the teachers and pupils. Building and forming good relationships with our Junior teachers which enables them to look forward to the next stage of school with confidence.
Our aim is to instill a love of learning and to encourage creative thinking from a young age.
